New York City Building Code Addition of Section 3.10.12 of Chapter K3 of Appendix K

The New York City Department of Buildings has modified the NYC Building Code pertaining to existing elevators, with the addition of Section 3.10.12 of chapter K3 of Appendix K. The addition of section 3.10.12 will require a system to monitor and prevent automatic operation of passenger and freight elevators with faulty door contact circuits.
All automatic passenger and freight elevators shall comply with this section by January 1, 2020.
The Department of Buildings will issue a cease use and Class 1 violation under Section 28-304.1: Failure to maintain elevator, for all non-compliant elevators.
